But Sometimes the Cook Cuts the Wrong Thing...

Oops!

A few weeks after the amazing lasagna day, I decided to make homemade raviolis.  I put on my favorite Frank Sinatra cd.  Then I set out the pasta roller, the ricotta, the spinach and mushrooms. I sharpened my favorite knife and started chopping.  Jim disappeared to take a shower.  It wasn't long before I was knocking on the bathroom door asking for butterfly band aids and tape.  After a cleaning my finger I realized this wasn't going to be an easy fix.  Being a considerate person, I called our local urgent care to see how late they were open (I didn't want to show up as they were locking the doors for the night.).  Soon I was knocking on the door again letting Jim know I was driving myself to town for stitches.  Of course, he wouldn't let me do that. He quickly dressed and we headed to town.  A few hours and three stitches later we were headed home with take out pizza for the night.
Ugly, huh?

Through a good part of the nail, they couldn't put stitches there.
I just had to keep it wrapped.

About a month later.

It wasn't too bad, as far as injuries go.  It was a bit of a pain in my as! due to working with my hands all day and the cold weather didn't really help.  Aside from some weird feeling, I am all healed and back to chopping in the kitchen again.  Only now, I go a bit slower.

*On a weird side note, the fact that the knife was super sharp it made for a clean cut that healed quite fast.

Flashback...

Back in January, Jim and I went Ridgeway to visit his parents who were "wintering" there.
We found a few picture worthy items.

I fell in love with this turtle in the park!

(click to enlarge - it's funny to read!)

We wondered just how bad the local drivers are that the crosswalk isn't safe enough.  Pedestrians are instructed to wave orange flags when crossing the street to increase their visablity.

As always, I fall off the communications scene through out the winter. So, my dear readers who are used to this can look foward to some "catch-up" posts.  Thanks for hanging in there with me for another year!

Another Year Older...

Over Memorial Day Weekend I got older.
The Big 40!!

My Papa and his girlfriend (Ruth) were visiting, so we spent the day wandering Downtown Durango.

A Birthday Hat for the Birthday Girl?!

Thumbs up for a new decade!

 Ruth is from Germany.
So while we were waiting for a table for dinner we had fun with some sidewalk chalk.
"Happy Birthday"

"All Good"

Yes, my birthday was all good this year.  I had lots of family in town to help ring in the next decade.  I am looking forward to spending my forties accomplishing more than ever before!

Bye Bye 30's & Look Out 40's Here I Come!

First Snowshow of 2011

Yesterday marked the first snowshoe excursion of the year. I don't who was more excited -
us or the dogs. Aspen proceeded to give herself a wonderful snow bath.

Doug tried to follow that big nose of his and just ended up with a face full of snow.

Me & Regina - Shan in the background

We seemed a bit confused to be in the lead, but it made for a fun portrait.

Shan took over and led the way west into the setting sun.

Finally, the top!!
We paused for a few moments to take in the gorgeous mountains we live in lit so vibrantly by the ever sinking sun. Then it was back down to the warmth of our homes, our families and dinner.
Shan and Regina have become wonderful friends over the past year. They live one block away and have two beautiful children whom have befriended Stown. The three kids can often be found cruising the neighborhood, sledding or having snowball fights while we stay home having intellectual exchanges over the current state of the world around us.
May your world be blessed with beauty, light, love and people to share it all with!!

Stown's First Dirt Bike Experience!!

Stown received his first dirt bike earlier this week. It's a Honda CRF 150. Kinda small, but perfect to learn on without being too powerful and scary. Today we went out for the basic lessons.
Rule #1: If you wanna ride, you gotta load your own bike.

Rule #2: Then you gotta unload your own bike.

Rule #3: ALL THE GEAR ALL THE TIME!!!
Probably the most important rule of all. We all abide by this one - Boots, Knee/Shin Guards, Body Armour, Gloves, Helmet and Goggles.

Jim, Stown and Aspen
It was all fine for Aspen until the bike started and she hauled off and out of the way. After a demonstration by Jim, Stown was on his way to starting, stopping and turning practice in a huge open space. Soon it was shifting gears and getting bored of making the same circles around the dirt lot.

Stown
Soon it was off down the dirt roads with Jim or myself.

Me on Jim's big KTM 450XC - it's bombproof!!
(Which is very important if I'm going to borrow your bike.)
Oops! As of noon on 9 Nov. I must correct this post. Jim just called to tell me that this is him on his bike. Gosh!! I thought I had a good picture of me going fast! Oh well, we all look the same in a helmet. But I really did go fast - maybe just too fast for pictures!
Jim, happy with Stown's progress demonstrated the next step in learning...

Jim
Needless to say, Stown didn't quite follow that stunt.

So we all rode and had a great time.
Then Stown learned another important lesson,

Never let your mom ride your motorcycle!!

So, I dumped the bike while I was showing off. I was wearing all the gear, so no harm no foul right? Unfortunately, I bent the front break lever pretty bad. I explained to Stown that anytime you borrow someone else's bike and break it you have to replace the part. I guess I'll be going back to the store this week.

Hope you had a fast weekend!!
